1930′s Tenement

An iconic part of 1930′s Chicago is the public housing, otherwise known as tenements. These were tall brick buildings, with art deco details. They’re most recognisable for the fire escapes which run down the front of the building, rather than the side. I’ve been recreating one of these buildings for the diorama. Originally I had just one tenement, but it quickly became apparent that I would need a lot of tenement buildings with variation in them. I want to avoid repetition of the same building. To overcome this problem I have constructed it in a modular way, so that objects can be added, subtracted, and multiplied on the building.
